Shruti Haasan fans are well aware that the actress loves everything goth. From Shruti’s music to make-up to costumes, the actress’s taste is heavily influenced by the goth subculture. In a recent adorable interaction between Shruti and Kamal Haasan, the latter asked his daughter the reason behind becoming a goth girl. The actress revealed that it was because of her father she turned out to be the person she is now. Shruti claimed that Kamal Haasan brought her up as a rugged and brave girl, which influenced her taste.

“One reason to become a goth girl?” asked Kamal Haasan, and Shruti Haasan quickly replied, “Oh, you only! Because… nobody knows that when I was little, you didn’t raise me as a girl. You were like, ‘Come, play in the mud, be cool! Listen to this rock music. And then you always had that Marudhanayagam thaadi (beard) and one day you had tattoos. So, it’s all your fault. And you are always dressed in black at home. I was like, ‘Oh, that’s the cool uniform. I get it.’ But you never brought me up like a girl. You should do this, read this, behave like this…”

Kamal Haasan interrupted Shruti and said, “So, when people asked me how I trained my daughter, I used to say, ‘I have trained her to walk 12 km, and she has graduated to 18 km. She almost fainted.’ They would be flabbergasted.”

Shruti replied, “You taught me that what you see is not the real thing. There’s something behind it. So, my fascination for goth was because of that. I started seeing things behind everything. So, it’s your fault. If you wonder why I wear so much black, ask him.”

Shruti took her love for gothic music and aesthetics to a new level with her recent single track Monster Machine, which is also about the rebellion of women against the norms. The song recently reached one million views on YouTube. The actor also sang for Yash’s Toxic title OST, which belongs to the same genre of music.
