Sony and Microsoft strike agreement to ensure continued presence of Call of Duty on PlayStation

Microsoft has recently reached an agreement with Sony to ensure that the popular Call Of Duty franchise will continue to be available on PlayStation consoles after the merger. This announcement comes just days after Microsoft successfully defended its purchase of Activision Blizzard against the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and ahead of its scheduled meeting with the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

Phil Spencer, the boss of Microsoft, shared the news on Twitter, stating that the two companies have signed a binding agreement to maintain Call Of Duty on PlayStation. He emphasized the importance of offering players more choices in playing their favorite games.

This deal comes shortly after a California judge ruled in favor of Microsoft against the FTC, dismissing the regulatory commission’s attempt to delay the Activision Blizzard acquisition. The FTC’s appeal was also rejected. Microsoft has also faced scrutiny from the UK’s CMA, which is currently reviewing the terms of the deal. Microsoft is set to meet with the CMA early this week.

Although no specific details regarding the Call Of Duty deal with Sony have been disclosed, there have been past rumors suggesting a 10-year agreement. The acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft is expected to be finalized this week, with the company either paying a $3 billion breakup fee or negotiating an extension if the deal is not closed by July 18.
