Streamer Alleges Twitch’s New Partner Plus Program Was Exclusive Offering Already Extended to Elite Streamers

Twitch, as a platform, is no stranger to controversy. However, its “Partner Plus” program has recently become a major point of contention. According to a prominent streamer, this new program, which offers a better revenue share agreement based on meeting specific milestones, was secretly offered to top streamers in the past.

The Partner Plus program allows qualified streamers to receive a 70/30 split on subscription revenues on the first $100,000 earned each year. To qualify, streamers must maintain a minimum of 350 recurring paid subscriptions for three consecutive months, as stated in a Twitch blog post. Streamers who meet these requirements will be enrolled in the Partner Plus program for the next 12 months, regardless of their subscriber count during that period. Any revenue earned beyond $100,000 will be subject to Twitch’s standard 50/50 split.

Streamer PaladinAmber revealed on Twitter that Twitch had previously negotiated 70/30 deals with top performers based on the 350-subscriber criteria. However, the streamer noted that while the previous deal was indefinite, the new program introduced a 12-month cap, making it less favorable for those who had the deal before. PaladinAmber also criticized Twitch for taking 50% of a streamer’s income and described the platform as “an empty room where we have to invite, promote, create, and direct content to entice people to join and watch.”

The existence of this “secret” 70/30 deal was previously reported by several outlets, including The Verge, and was already well-known among streamer circles. According to The Verge, streamers with these “premium terms” became subject to the $100,000 cap back in September. Therefore, one could argue that the Partner Plus program represents a downgrade for Twitch’s top streamers. Although Twitch is a massive platform, it faces competition from other services like YouTube Gaming and Kick, which offer more favorable revenue splits for content creators.
