Threads: Meta’s Innovative Twitter Alternative – All You Need to Understand

Joining Threads on Instagram is an effortless process. However, it is important to note that once you create a Threads account, it cannot be deleted at launch. The only way to delete your Threads account is by also deleting your Instagram account. Additionally, like other Meta apps, Threads collects various types of data, such as search history, location, and contact information. If privacy is a concern for you, it may be wise to wait until an option to delete individual Threads accounts becomes available.

Threads operates as a separate app, compatible with both Android and iOS. Initially, users were able to view posts on the web and share specific posts using links, but browser access and engagement with Threads were not possible. Upon downloading the free app, if you are already logged into Instagram on your device, you can easily link your accounts and create a Threads account without needing to create a new password. Your username and account name will remain the same for both platforms, although you have the option to customize your bio and profile photo. Unlike Twitter’s Bluesky, cover photo selection is currently unavailable.

Following accounts on Threads that you already follow on Instagram (and vice versa) is a seamless process. By navigating to the “Following” tab on your profile, you can easily discover Instagram friends who are not yet following you on Threads and add them with a single tap. You also have the ability to remove accounts you do not wish to have as followers through the “Followers” tab and control the privacy settings of your profile.
