Top 3 Must-Watch Cillian Murphy Performances Following Oppenheimer

Cillian Murphy’s performance in the newly released film Oppenheimer has been widely acclaimed as his career-best. Co-star Robert Downey Jr. has even praised Murphy’s dedication and commitment, referring to it as a significant “sacrifice.” Interestingly, the budget for Oppenheimer was only $100 million, which is half the cost of Marvel’s Secret Invasion series on Disney+.

These glowing reviews have inspired me to revisit some of Murphy’s previous remarkable performances on both the big screen and TV.

Cillian Murphy fans, don’t miss these great performances from him

Everyone has their own personal favorites from Murphy’s filmography. However, there is one performance that absolutely cannot be excluded:

Peaky Blinders

The British gangster drama Peaky Blinders is undeniably one of the greatest TV dramas of the decade, largely due to Murphy’s exceptional portrayal of Tommy Shelby. Murphy seamlessly embodies the character, making it difficult to distinguish between Tommy Shelby and Cillian Murphy himself.

Tommy Shelby is not only the leader of a crime gang in Birmingham but also the head of the Shelby family. The intricate world-building, stylish fashion, and Tommy’s multi-faceted character make this Netflix series captivating from start to finish.

Personally, I am enamored with everything about this show, including its iconic theme song.

Inception

Christopher Nolan’s 2010 masterpiece Inception, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is personally one of my favorite films. Its mind-bending and original story, coupled with stunning effects, makes it a standout in Nolan’s filmography. Although Murphy plays a secondary character, his presence as the dream thieves’ target is magnetic. It’s impossible to take your eyes off him, and his character’s story is heart-wrenching.

Anthropoid

In the 2016 World War II film Anthropoid, Murphy portrays a Slovak soldier leading a daring mission to assassinate a sadistic Nazi official. This film is a poignant and somber exploration of history.

*Spoiler warning*

The scene where Murphy’s character looks through the window, knowing that everything is lost, is incredibly powerful. The film’s assassination sequence is intense and realistic, avoiding the typical stylized gunfight sequences. I highly recommend this movie to fans of WWII films, not only for Murphy’s exceptional performance but for its overall quality.
