Twitch Streamer Develops Interactive Experience: Viewers Can Now Play ‘Zelda’ Songs as Link

A creative Twitch streamer has developed a unique feature that allows their viewers to play songs on a virtual Ocarina from the iconic game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Nutty, known for their popular streams of various Metroid games and for providing tutorials on Open Broadcaster Software for use on Twitch, unveiled this impressive creation on June 17.

“I dedicated an entire day to transforming Ocarina of Time into a Twitch widget so that my viewers can enjoy playing the Ocarina while I go on break,” they expressed in the caption accompanying their clip on Twitter.

This remarkable widget responds to commands typed by the audience through the live Twitch chat box. So, when a viewer enters the sequence “up, left, right, up, left, right,” the Link character starts playing the enchanting melody of Epona’s Song for everyone to enjoy.

The widget is not limited to a single song; it includes all playable tunes from Ocarina of Time. In their stream, Nutty demonstrated Song of Storms and Saria’s Song, and Link even acknowledges the viewer who successfully triggered the song by reacting to their message in the chat.

Impressively, Nutty went the extra mile by recreating the Nintendo 64 buttons featured in the original game, as the existing assets were not of sufficient quality for their widget. However, this creation has not been warmly received by the streamer’s audience.

“I spent the whole day working on something new, and you guys are like, ‘this is boring, bring back the old stuff,’” expressed the streamer while showcasing the Ocarina of Time widget. “Come on, guys, give me a chance to have fun with this for a day.”

The soundtrack of Ocarina of Time holds a special place in gamers’ hearts due to its simple yet memorable melodies and the haunting audio atmospheres of the dungeons. Composer Koji Kondo drew inspiration from Indian folk music to create iconic songs like Potion Shop, while the majority of the soundtrack was sourced from ’90s CD samples.

In other exciting gaming news, the satirical mod Duke Smoochem 3D now features a new event: a virtual recreation of George Osborne’s wedding.
