Twitch Introduces Exclusive “Hype Chat” Feature for Partners
Twitch is revolutionizing monetization for content creators once again, but not without limitations. While the recent changes to revenue splits were seen by some as a positive step, the new program comes with several requirements that restrict its benefits to only a select few.
Now, Twitch is rolling out another potentially controversial feature known as “Hype Chat.” In a recent blog post, Twitch announced that viewers will have the opportunity to purchase chat messages, enabling them to “stand out” in the chatroom.
The pricing for these chat messages can range from $1 to $500 (though streamers can set a minimum amount of up to $100). The payment determines the duration of the pinned comment, character length, and visual design. Furthermore, streamers will receive a share of the revenue generated from each Hype Chat purchase.
However, this new feature is exclusive to Twitch Partners, leaving smaller channels unable to access it. Twitch does mention the possibility of expanding the feature to a wider audience in the future, but it remains uncertain.
Recovering support might be a challenge for Twitch right now, especially with prominent streamers like xQc and Amouranth defecting to rival platform Kick. Nonetheless, Twitch continues to attract millions of users each month.
