After approximately two weeks since the launch of Twitter X’s ad revenue sharing program with creators, the program is now expanding.
In July, several Twitter users shared screenshots of their expected earnings from the program, with some set to receive close to $50,000 CAD as payouts. Initially, a significant portion of the payouts were received by far-right influencers.
Now, the program is available to users worldwide who meet the specified criteria, which includes being subscribed to X Blue (previously known as Twitter Blue) or being a Verified Organization, having a minimum of 15 million impressions on cumulative posts within the past three months, and having at least 500 followers.
X will only compensate for ads that appear in users’ tweet replies and will exclusively pay for ads served to users who have paid for a blue checkmark verification.
Elon Musk, the owner of X, initially announced the program in February.
The ad revenue-sharing program coincides with a crucial time for X’s advertising business as the platform has faced criticism for featuring ads for popular brands next to accounts controlled by neo-Nazis. Additionally, X has attempted to entice advertisers back to the platform this week through incentives, discounts, and even threats. X has stated that it will revoke verification status from brands unless they have spent at least $1,000 USD (approximately $1,322.65 CAD) in the last 30 days or $6,000 USD (approximately $7,935.90 CAD) in the last 180 days.
