Unlocking the Key Oatchi Abilities in Pikmin 4: Enhancing Pup Power to the Fullest

Pikmin 4 introduces exciting new elements to the beloved series, and the most adorable addition is Oatchi, your new canine companion. Oatchi isn’t just there for companionship, though; when properly upgraded, he can be as useful as a full squad of Pikmin. You can upgrade Oatchi’s abilities by spending “Pup Drive” points obtained by rescuing castaways and curing “Leaflings” through a nighttime mission and creating medicine from Glow Sap. However, it’s important to choose wisely where to allocate your Pup Drive points since you can’t undo your choices. Here are the Oatchi abilities that should be your priority:

Note: There are abilities that are automatically given to you throughout the campaign, like Jump. While these are crucial, we won’t focus on them here since you don’t get to choose them.

Buff and Super Buff

By upgrading Buff, Oatchi’s carrying capacity increases. Once you reach level three of Buff, you unlock Super Buff, which also has three levels. Buff and Super Buff are essential for divide-and-conquer strategies and for winning Dandori battles later in the game. By maxing out Super Buff, Oatchi will possess the strength of 100 Pikmin, enabling him to retrieve almost anything in the game.

Command

Command is Oatchi’s most intricate ability. It consists of three levels, each allowing you to issue new commands to Oatchi. For example, at level two, you can send Oatchi back to your base or a specific spot on the map. At level three, Oatchi can round up all the stray Pikmin on the map like a sheepdog. This ability is essential for multitasking.

Rush and Mega Rush

Similar to Buff, fully upgrading Rush will unlock the more powerful Mega Rush, which also has three levels. Rush can be used to break objects and doors, as well as damage or knock down enemies. If you advance to Mega Rush, you’ll also be able to stun most enemies, a significant advantage in battle. Mastering Rush is crucial for success in the game, so make sure not to overlook it.

Chomp and Big Chomp

With Chomp upgrades, Oatchi inflicts more damage in battles – straightforward but effective. Achieving Big Chomp allows Oatchi to capture enemies mid-air.

Doggy-Paddle

By reaching level three of Doggy-Paddle, Oatchi gains the ability to swim, retrieve items from water, and combat underwater enemies. Essentially, Oatchi acquires the same capabilities as Blue Pikmin.

There you have it! Ensure your furry friend receives the best training! While it’s ideal to unlock all of Oatchi’s abilities, prioritize the ones listed above in order of importance (start with Buff and work your way down the list).
