Upcoming Web-series releasing in September 2023: Scam 2003, The Freelancer and more

August is way behind us and it came with a lot of good content in the OTT space. While shows like Made In Heaven and Guns & Gulaabs were instant hits, it’s time to look forward to what’s in store for the upcoming month. September has officially descended upon us and it is time to look forward to a whole new lot of Hindi web series that are making their way to OTT this month. An interesting lineup there with a mix of thrillers and mass entertainers with shows like Scam 2003, Mumbai Meri Jaan, The Freelancer, Kaala and Masterpeace. After Scam 1992, Hansal Mehta’s Scam 2003 – The Telgi Story is a much-anticipated series to look forward to. Bambai Meri Jaan comes across as a thrilling watch while The Freelancer with its stellar cast is one to look out for. There is a family drama in the mix too that not many people are aware of titled Masterpeace which sees Nithya Menen headlining it with a lot of comedy, confusion and chaos. Here’s a look at the Hindi web-series in September 2023 you need to add to your watchlist:

Scam 2003: The Telgi Story

While Harshad Mehta’s story in Scam 1992 had a terrific response and made Pratik Gandhi a star overnight, Scam 2003: The Telgi Story promises to be an edge-of-the-seat entertainer along the same lines. Hansal Mehta shared the teaser on his social media account with a very catchy caption that stated, “Life mein aage badhna hain toh daring to karna padega na darling!” The intriguing plot of the series revolves around Abdul Karim Telgi who was a fruit seller. He got into the business of printing counterfeit stamps and thus built a massive empire. Gagan Dev Riar who has some of the most noteworthy projects to his name plays the lead role. To those unaware, the series has been adapted from Telgi Scam: Reporter’s Ki Diary written by Sanjay Singh. Other pivotal cast members include Mukesh Tiwari, Bharat Jadhav, Shaad Randhawa and Sana Amin Sheikh. The first look of the series has garnered a positive response with Hansal Mehta introducing the new scandalous tale and it is finally around the corner.

Bambai Meri Jaan

This crime thriller series is being produced by Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani and Kassim Jagmagia. Farhan took to his social media account to share a glimpse and captioned it with, “Time to crown the new king of Bambai!” The series is going to have 10 episodes and is adapted from S. Hussain Zaidi’s story that revolves around gaining Independence. The plot presents a young lad who finds himself in a war of choosing between law enforcement like his father or losing himself in the world of crime. This intriguing story is a period production set in the post-Independence era and how the inception of the underworld in Mumbai took place while the nation celebrated its freedom. One of the most promising gangster series to look forward to this month with an equally stellar cast featuring Avinash Tiwary, Kritika Kamra, Amyra Dastur, Kay Kay Menon and Nivedita Bhattacharya.

The Freelancer

The series boasts of an impressive cast featuring Mohit Raina, Kashmira Pardeshi, Sushant Singh, John Kokken, Navneet Malik, Gauri Balaji and Anupam Kher. The series has been adapted from the book A Ticket to Syria written by Shirish Thorat. The focal character is Avinash Kamath essayed by Mohit Raina who will be seen as a former police officer who now works as a mercenary. He sets out on a mission to save a young bride called Aliya who gets embroiled in Syria where ISIS terrorism is on the rise. With some of the most bankable actors headlining it, this is going to be a thrilling watch.

Kaala

Another crime-thriller to add to your watchlist this month is Kaala helmed by Bejoy Nambiar. The cast onboarded for the same include names like Avinash Tiwary, Taher Shabbir, Hiten Tejwani, Rohan Vinod Mehra and Nivetha Pethuraj. The series is a combination of plunging deep into the world of crime whilst exploring the functioning of the darkness that invades human souls. The plot revolves around an Intelligence Bureau officer who gets involved in solving some high-octane cases that are about criminals, power, wealth, vengeance and action. The rollercoaster ride is as unfiltered as it gets and makes you think deeper about the kind of world we live in.

Masterpeace

This dysfunctional comedy series is going to make you take a break from everything that worries you and enjoy an easy-breezy watch. The lead actress Nithye Menen and Sharaf U Dheen see their entire world turn upside down when their family issues result in gigantic chaos as their parents meddle in. This comedy of errors is a family entertainer that is as heartwarming as it gets. The series will be available in multiple languages such as Malayalam, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi and Kannada besides Hindi. Nithya Menen previously received positive reviews for her role in Breathe: Into The Shadows alongside Abhishek Bachchan. This coming-of-age family drama sees her in yet another avatar.

Looks like an interesting mix of content to look forward to this month. A lot of crime-thrillers are lined up for this month which is also the most trending genre of all time in the OTT space. The star cast in most of them is what is going to make the audience hooked to their screens. Avinash Tiwary will be back to entertain us in a gritty role after a long time. Whereas Anupam Kher and Mohit Raina coming together in The Freelancer will be interesting. Hansal Mehta has kept the audience asking for more with a glimpse from Scam 2003: The Telgi Case and out of the lot, it is indeed the most anticipated one for all the right reasons. Here’s looking forward to a month of thrilling storytelling and yet another round of notable performances as these web shows hit our screens.
