Verizon, the largest wireless provider in the country, experiences hours-long service disruption in certain markets

Verizon Subscribers Encounter Service Issues

Several Verizon subscribers are currently facing problems with the nation’s largest wireless carrier. According to the latest data from DownDetector, the number of complaints about Verizon has spiked from 244 at 2:38 pm EDT to a peak of 2,503 at 3:23 pm EDT. As of 7:08 pm EDT, 1,408 complaints are still pouring in, which is ten times higher than the usual baseline.

Out of the total complaints, 56% reported issues with their mobile phones due to Verizon’s problems. Another 24% mentioned the inability to connect to any signals from Verizon, while 19% experienced a complete blackout of Verizon service.

When it comes to the geographical distribution of complaints, the areas with the highest number of reports include Evansville, Indiana; Paducah, Kentucky; Owensboro, Kentucky; Nashville, Tennessee; New York City, New York; Murray, Kentucky; Jasper, Indiana; Newburgh, Indiana; and Benton, Arkansas. Notably, New York City stands out as a location where Verizon is facing unique issues, distinct from those reported in Kentucky, Indiana, and Arkansas.

Verizon recently tweeted about the situation, attributing the problem to a cut fiber. In their tweet, the company states, “Fiber cuts in the Evansville area are causing a disruption in service for customers in and around the area. Our engineers are collaborating with our third-party fiber provider to resolve the cuts and restore service. Unfortunately, we do not have an estimated time for resolution yet.”

According to a Verizon customer on DownDetector, a tower supplying signals to large parts of western Kentucky, southern Indiana, and western Tennessee has been knocked out by a storm in Evansville. This tower outage has also impacted other carriers, as per Verizon’s representative.

Despite the evident service problems faced by Verizon, some customers have been informed by Verizon phone representatives that no outages are occurring. However, many of these customers experiencing disruptions have no cellular service and are left with only the SOS icon on their phone’s status bar.

In response to a concerned customer reporting a service outage in their area, Verizon replied, “Hello and thanks for notifying us. We acknowledge the service disruption and are available to assist you in understanding the cause and restoring your service promptly.”

For some Verizon customers, this could be a long night. We will diligently monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
