Weather Updates: Rains Likely in Pollution-hit Delhi, Punjab on Friday; Downpour in TN, Kerala Also

Light to moderate rains and snowfall may be witnessed over Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh on Friday

The Indian Meteorological Department on Thursday predicted light to heavy rains in several parts of the country such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir due to western disturbance.  The IMD also said that a generally cloudy sky with light downpours is likely in Delhi on Friday.

In its statement, the weather department informed that due to strong easterly and northeasterly winds arriving from the Bay of Bengal and a cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area in Tamil Nadu, states are receiving rains.

HERE SOME KEY UPDATES:

  • Light to moderate rain is very likely over Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Goa and Maharashtra as well as Lakshadweep and Puducherry during the next two days and may decrease thereafter.
  • States like Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have witnessed water logged roads, landslides, fallen trees along with various traffic diversions owing to northeast monsoon rainfall.
  • Light to moderate rains and snowfall may be witnessed over Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh on Friday.
  • The IMD predicted isolated light rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Delhi is likely on Friday.
  • The Mughal Road, an alternative link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, was closed for vehicular traffic on Thursday after snowfall in high-altitude areas, officials said, adding that snowfall between Poshana and Peer Ki Gali led to the highway being closed.
  • According to the local weather office, there is likely to be heavy overnight snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Some suburbs of Mumbai and its neighbouring areas, including Thane, experienced unseasonal rains accompanied by thunder on Thursday night. According to residents, Kanjurmarg, Bhandup, Mulund, Powai, Aarey and some other areas of Mumbai, besides parts of extended suburbs like Dombivli, Kalyan, Ulhasnagar and Badlapur received showers with thunder at around 9 pm.
  • A cloudy sky with light rain is expected in Delhi on Friday, the weather department said.
  • Meanwhile, the Delhi government is planning artificial rainfall in the city to control air pollution. A senior government functionary was quoted as saying by news agency PTI that artificial rain could be made to happen by November 20-21, if Centre extends its support to the government.
  • Light to moderate to fairly widespread showers is very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands till November 16.
  • No significant weather likely over rest parts of the country till November 14, said the weather department in its release.
