Akshay Urja Day History
The history of Akshay Urja Day, or Renewable Energy Day, traces back to the early 2000s, when the Indian government recognised the urgent need to address environmental concerns and promote sustainable energy solutions.
The day was established by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in 2004 accompanied by the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The event was organised in New Delhi.
Approximately, 12,000 children from schools across India formed a human chain to encourage the usage of renewable energy like air, sunlight and water more than non-renewable sources like oil, coal and natural gas.
