‘What’s old can become new again’, says CNET in its Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series review

The Galaxy Watch 6 and 6 Classic are Samsung’s latest smartwatches, offering larger and higher resolution screens compared to the Galaxy Watch 5. They also feature the new Exynos W930 processor and bring back the fan-favorite rotating bezel on the Classic model.

According to a review by CNET, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic are practically identical in terms of internal specifications, sensors, and sizing options. The main difference is that the Galaxy Watch 6 features an aluminum frame, while the Classic model is made of stainless steel.

In terms of design, the Galaxy Watch 6 and 6 Classic closely resemble the Galaxy Watch 5, but with slightly larger and higher resolution screens. The Classic model stands out with its rotating bezel, while the non-Classic model does not have this feature. Both watches are available in 40mm and 44mm sizes.

When it comes to health and fitness tracking, the Galaxy Watch 6 introduces new features such as a track run workout type and the ability to create custom workouts. Samsung has also re-added automatic cycling detection, which was missing from the Galaxy Watch 4 and 5. Battery life has also improved compared to the Galaxy Watch 5, with Samsung claiming up to 30 hours with the always-on display or 40 hours with it turned off.

The Galaxy Watch 6 and 6 Classic are powered by the new Exynos W930 processor, a slight upgrade over the previous Exynos W920 processor in the Galaxy Watch 5. They offer a wide range of health and fitness tracking features, including heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen monitoring, sleep tracking, and GPS tracking. Additionally, users can now enjoy the new track run workout type and create custom workouts.

According to the review, some of the advantages of the Galaxy Watch 6 series include larger and higher resolution screens, the new Exynos W930 processor, the rotating bezel on the Classic model, a new track run workout type, the option to create custom workouts, slightly improved battery life, and compatibility with both Android phones and iPhones. On the downside, the watches do not offer any major upgrades over the Galaxy Watch 5, lack certain features found on the Apple Watch (such as an ECG app), and are considered somewhat pricey.

All in all, the Galaxy Watch 6 and 6 Classic are solid smartwatches with some new features and improvements compared to their predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 5. The review advises that upgrading to the Galaxy Watch 6 depends on individual circumstances. If you already own a Galaxy Watch 4 or 5, it may not be necessary unless you can get a great trade-in deal or really desire the larger screen.
