The Meta-owned popular instant messaging application WhatsApp might be developing new image-editing features using generative AI. These tools, like Backdrop, Restyle, and Expand, could help users make their images better. You’ll probably find these AI editing tools in WhatsApp’s image editor menu, under the sparkle icon.
According to AssembleDebug, who looked into the latest WhatsApp beta release for Android (v2.24.7.13), new AI-powered editing tools will soon be available to enhance your images. These tools, including Backdrop, Restyle, and Expand, allow you to add text-to-image backdrops, adjust picture styles and expand backgrounds.
When you’re posting a status update or sending an image on WhatsApp, you’ll see these options directly in the image editor window, the report said. As per Android Central report, Mark Zuckerberg-owned Meta previously announced they are adding AI backdrop and image restyling tools for Instagram and Facebook. But they didn’t mention these features coming to WhatsApp until now.
The screenshot shared in a report revealed that these AI image editing tools are hiding under the sparkle icon, right up there in the same menu where you find other editing tricks on WhatsApp like rotating, cropping, slapping on stickers, and adding text.
Additionally, WhatsApp is also exploring a new privacy feature to allow iPhone users to control who can use their appearance in their avatar stickers. Currently, WhatsApp intends to introduce three distinct privacy options to manage this feature: “My Contacts”, enabling anyone from your contacts list to use your appearance, “Selected Contacts”, restricting the choice to trusted contacts only, or “Nobody”, allowing users to disable this feature entirely.
It is important to note that, if both you and a contact allow this setting for each other, stickers featuring your avatar with theirs will be accessible in your chat. Users will have the choice to decide who can use their avatar in stickers. This way, they can keep control over their digital identity, making sure only approved contacts can feature their avatar stickers.
