Woefully Misinformed WoW Players Continuously Dismiss the New Augmentation Spec, Failing to Grasp its Significance

Players of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s new Augmentation specialization for Evokers are facing challenges when trying to justify their role in dungeon groups. It seems that some members of the community are not fully aware of what the spec entails.

While technically a DPS specialization, Augmentation is a unique buff-focused spec in Blizzard’s MMO. It revolves around increasing the damage output of the group it is a part of. Augmentation Evokers do deal damage on their own, but their main goal is to use abilities in a chain to provide maximum buff uptime for their group. This introduces a new style of support gameplay to WoW for the first time.

Unfortunately, one of the most popular add-ons in the game, the DPS tracker Details!, does not accurately display how Augmentation contributes to the group’s performance. This leads ignorant players to criticize the spec for dealing low damage, disregarding the fact that the rest of the group’s damage is significantly boosted to compensate for Augmentation’s lower DPS.

However, Augmentation Evokers are taking it in stride. On the WoW subreddit, members of an Evoker-centric Discord server have compiled instances where they have been harassed or kicked from groups for playing Augmentation. It provides a sad (although amusing) glimpse into the mindset of WoW players who only focus on the numerical representation of one player, assuming that player is underperforming.

Despite the difficulties facing Augmentation players, more experienced and informed players are thrilled with the spec. Reports on Reddit indicate that groups with Augmentation Evokers have no trouble clearing high-level Mythic+ dungeons, and that Augmentation’s buffs and off-healing capabilities also make the job of healers and tanks easier.

The unique playstyle of Augmentation will require the WoW community to adapt and necessitate changes to third-party websites and add-ons that players rely on. Warcraft Logs, a website that provides detailed stat breakdowns for analyzing performance, has outlined the updates it will make to accommodate Augmentation.

In addition to Augmentation, the latest update for WoW introduced a new megadungeon. Blizzard has already shared details of what to expect in the game’s next update, including the ability for Night Elf and Forsaken players to unlock their Heritage Armor sets in patch 10.1.7, which is currently available for testing on the game’s public test realm.
