Xbox President Teases ‘Largest Technical Leap’ Ever For Next-Gen Console

Recently, Xbox has garnered attention for its new found strategy of making games available on multiple platforms. At least four games have been confirmed to launch on rival consoles such as Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. This shift has led many Xbox fans to speculate whether the company is transitioning away from the console business to focus solely on publishing. However, recent statements from Xbox President Sarah Bond suggest otherwise.

During the ‘Updates on the Xbox Business’ podcast, Bond shared insights about the next generation of Xbox consoles, which will succeed the Xbox Series X/S and directly compete with the PlayStation 6. She claimed that the upcoming Xbox would mark “the largest technical leap you will have ever seen in a hardware generation,” alleviating concerns among Xbox fans.

Bond also teased, “There’s some exciting stuff coming out in hardware that we’re going to share this holiday.”

These remarks indicate that Xbox still regards hardware as a significant aspect of its gaming business and has no intentions of abandoning it to become solely a publisher.

“Our developers can build the specs of our hardware, and we invest to make sure when they do that the games are going to run great on our hardware,” she further said.

“But they’re also going to be able to be accessed across any screen because of all the other investments we make. So we’re giving them an easy way to access as many players as possible.”

Nevertheless, despite the Xbox Series X’s faster on paper hardware compared to its competitor, the Sony PS5, it has been outsold. This can largely be attributed to the lack of first-party games. With Xbox’s focus on expanding game availability to rival consoles, it remains to be seen how the company will differentiate itself to attract new users.
