How Virat Kohli’s advice in the WTC 2023 Final benefited Australia’s star batter

Team India fans are still reeling from the devastating loss they experienced in the WTC 2023 Final at The Oval, England. Australia emerged victorious, defeating India by 209 runs to claim the World Test Championship title. Despite a few minor controversies, Australia outperformed India in almost every department. Australian batter Alex Carey recently shared the feedback he received from Virat Kohli, acknowledging India’s great legends.

In the first innings of the WTC 2023 Final, Alex Carey was batting at 48 when he made the decision to attempt a reverse sweep, ultimately resulting in losing his wicket to Team India spinner Ravindra Jadeja. Speaking to Cricket.com.au, Carey admitted, “There was no need to play that shot at The Oval in the first innings.”

Alex Carey revealed that renowned batters like Virat Kohli and Steve Smith expressed disappointment in his shot selection. He stated, “When you have Virat Kohli and Steve Smith questioning your decision, you tend to listen.” The Australian player acknowledged the validity of the criticism, as the reverse sweep shot has not yielded favorable results against India.

Ashes 2023

Currently playing in Ashes 2023, Alex Carey once again attempted a reverse sweep after scoring his half-century. He explained, “After reaching 50 yesterday, I saw an opportunity with (Ben) Duckett positioned at point and no one boundary-riding out there. Although I didn’t manage to execute it successfully, I saw other scoring opportunities.”

Australia is currently facing difficulties in Ashes 2023, with Usman Khawaja (48) holding the fort at one end while wickets continue to fall on the other. In the first innings, Usman Khawaja (141) ensured that Australia came close to England’s score of 393, though the performances of other batters were not satisfactory.
