Latest Updates on State of Origin 2023

Josh Addo-Carr, Jarome Luai, and Reece Walsh have all received consequences from the match review committee following a confrontational altercation during the final minute of Origin II. Luai and Walsh were sent off, while Addo-Carr was sin binned. Despite the referee taking action, Walsh further incited the situation by waving his opponents off the field in front of TV cameras.

Addo-Carr was fined 10% of his match fee, while Walsh and Luai received a 23% penalty. Additionally, the Maroons fullback was fined 7% of his match fee for a dangerous contact charge earlier in the game. In the closing minutes, Walsh obstructed James Tedesco’s chase on a Mitchell Moses kick, sparking the explosive altercation.

Luai and Walsh were initially involved in the incident, with Walsh seemingly committing the first offense as evidenced by footage. Addo-Carr then threw a punch at the Maroons fullback after jumping in.

Cameron Smith, a former teammate of Addo-Carr, described the punch as a “brain snap” and called on Daly Cherry-Evans and James Tedesco to calm down the players. Referee Ashley Klein also attempted to control Tino Fa’asuamaleaui during the chaos.

“Both skippers, they’ve got to take control of this match, there’s only 22 seconds left,” Smith expressed during Nine’s coverage.

Before being sent off, Walsh waved off Addo-Carr while pointing at the scoreboard. Addo-Carr tapped the NSW badge and taunted the crowd as he left the field, followed by Walsh doing the same to cheers from the Queensland supporters.
