CIRA Launches New Stock Image Collection with Indigenous Focus

CIRA is addressing the issue of underrepresentation of Indigenous people in online photography by launching a new stock image collection.

In Canada, there are over 60,000 Indigenous businesses, yet they are not adequately represented on websites and digital platforms, according to the organization responsible for managing the .ca domain.

“While Indigenous creators and entrepreneurs are making a significant impact online, they lack access to resources that reflect their diversity,” remarked Spencer Callaghan, the director of brand and communications at CIRA.

To tackle this issue, CIRA collaborated with Pow Wow Pitch and Shelby Lisk, an Indigenous photographer, to develop a free photo library showcasing Indigenous content. The collection features Indigenous models at Indigenous-owned businesses.

“The CIRA stock photo project is a crucial step forward in providing Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses in Canada with stock photography that accurately represents the diversity of these enterprises,” commented Sunshine Tenasco, the founder of Pow Wow Pitch.
