2023 State of Origin Updates: Breaking News

NSW Blues legend, Andrew Johns, has firmly shut down speculations about him replacing Brad Fittler as coach following the state’s consecutive series losses. Despite Fittler being uncontracted after game three, there is no consideration from Johns to take over the coaching position. In an interview with 2GB’s Wide World of Sports Radio, Johns expressed his respect for Fittler and his commitment to the game. He stated, “Whether he’s going to go on or not, that decision lies with the NSWRL board. Personally, I would never do it out of respect for my great mate Freddy.” Johns commended Fittler’s coaching skills and dismissed any notion of disrespecting him. Reflecting on the series loss, Johns acknowledged Queensland’s outstanding performance, specifically highlighting the talent of Reece Walsh. However, Johns emphasized the Blues’ missed chances and highlighted lack of support as a major concern. Moving forward, Johns emphasized the importance of winning game three and the team’s perseverance.
