Wrexham Football Club owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are now part of an investor group that has acquired a 24% equity stake in Formula 1 team Alpine.
Alpine’s parent company, Renault, announced on Monday that the two Hollywood actors, along with Otro Capital and RedBird Capital Partners, are joining as investors.
The deal, valued at 200 million euros (£171 million), gives Alpine Racing, based in Britain, an overall valuation of approximately £706 million.
Currently, Alpine ranks fifth in this year’s F1 constructors’ championship.
Reynolds and McElhenney, who completed their takeover at Wrexham in 2021, led the Welsh club to a promotion back to the Football League after a 15-year absence by winning the
National League title
in April.
RedBird, a US investment firm, is also an investor in Fenway Sports Group, the owner of Premier League side Liverpool and the Boston Red Sox baseball team.
In August 2022, RedBird acquired Italian Serie A club AC Milan in a 1.2 billion euro deal and holds a controlling stake in French Ligue 1 side Toulouse.
Alpine’s CEO, Laurent Rossi, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it is a crucial step in enhancing their performance at all levels.
Rossi also highlighted that the investment will have a positive impact on Alpine’s media profile, further supporting the team’s long-term performance.
