13-Year-Old Girl Becomes First Female to Land a ‘720’ Trick in Competition
In a remarkable feat, 13-year-old prodigy Arisa Trew from the Gold Coast has made skateboarding history by becoming the first female to successfully perform a ‘720’ trick in competition. The trick involves executing two full mid-air rotations. Trew accomplished this incredible task in the presence of skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, who was the first person ever to land the trick.
Prior to her groundbreaking performance, Trew received guidance from Tony Hawk himself, which undoubtedly contributed to her success. She executed the ‘720’ trick at the Tony Hawk Vert Alert event held in Salt Lake City on Sunday.
Trew expressed her excitement, stating, “I’m thrilled to become the world’s first female to land a 720. I owe it to the amazing support from the crowd, as they truly hyped me up.”
Her astonishing achievement secured her victory in the women’s division, winning by a margin of seven points. Trew’s exceptional performance now positions her as a strong contender for a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Currently ranked 14th globally, Trew’s next target is the X Games USA, taking place in California in July.
Trew’s coach, Trevor Ward, commended her historic achievement, saying, “This was truly an extraordinary moment. We have dedicated countless hours and endured significant challenges to bring Arisa to this point. She underwent rigorous training and overcame numerous obstacles. It’s truly unbelievable that she, as a 13-year-old, has become the first woman in the world to accomplish the ‘720’ trick, a feat that Tony Hawk achieved in 1985.”
