Ryan Carr, coach of St George Illawarra Dragons, makes a bold move that receives high praise from Andrew Johns.

After receiving criticism from Andrew Johns for their lackluster performance, interim head coach Ryan Carr didn’t hold back in giving his team a stern talking to. Following the St George Illawarra Dragons’ 48-18 loss to the Warriors, Carr addressed his players and made it clear that anyone not fully committed should find the door. In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Carr emphasized his coaching style, rooted in honesty and accountability. He acknowledged the disappointment in their recent performance, but stressed the importance of staying true to their beliefs and standards. Carr expressed his desire to be straightforward and not resort to excessive ranting and raving. He believes in taking things as they come and maintaining a balanced perspective.

The Dragons’ struggles on the field seem to reflect the turmoil off the field. With the firing of Anthony Griffin and Jason Ryles’ rejection of the coaching position, along with internal board conflicts, the club has been in disarray. Furthermore, the team has also been shaken by Ben Hunt’s request to be released from his contract. Despite the upheaval, the Dragons have stood firm in their decision to keep Hunt as captain.

Andrew Johns characterized the Dragons’ season as a “soap opera” and criticized their lack of effort against the Warriors. Brad Fittler echoed this sentiment, suggesting that the team may have been affected by the uncertainty surrounding Hunt’s future with the club. However, despite the ongoing drama, the Dragons have secured Shane Flanagan as their coach for the next three years, starting from 2024.

Next, the Dragons will face Cronulla at Shark Park on Thursday night as part of the Beanie for Brain Cancer Round. To stay up to date with breaking news and exclusive content from Wide World of Sports, subscribe to our newsletter.
