Sunil Gavaskar voices concerns over the intention behind Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s selection in India Vs West Indies test series

After the Indian squad led by Rohit Sharma managed a draw in the second test at Queen’s Park Oval, the final day of play was washed out, resulting in India winning the series 1-0.

India has now maintained an undefeated streak against West Indies in test matches in the Caribbean for the past 21 years.

Despite India’s series win, Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian skipper and cricket legend, questioned the rationale behind selecting senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Gavaskar also expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that established players are receiving support from younger players, as reported by Mid-Day.

“The runs scored by Rohit and Kohli against this West Indies attack raise the question of what the selectors have learned that they didn’t already know,” he wrote in his column for Mid-Day.

“Wouldn’t it have been better to try out some young players and see how they perform in Test cricket? Or is it that the selectors don’t want any challenge from the younger generation to the established players?” he added.

Questioning the selection committee, he expressed hope for changes in the team.

“Now that Ajit Agarkar has joined as the Chairman of the selection committee, let’s see if there will be any change in their approach to building a team for the future, or if it will be the same old story of the Indian team always being second best,” he further added.
