Carlton key forward Harry McKay to make miracle return against Gold Coast Suns just four weeks after knee surgery, season ending knee injury against Port Adelaide, Charlie Curnow

Injured Carlton key forward Harry McKay has been named for a shock early return as the high flying Blues look to lock in their September berth.

McKay, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in late July, will make his return after just four weeks on the sidelines, original fears had him missing up to two months.

In a statement, the club said the 25-year-old trained “fully in recent weeks”.

His selection comes after Carlton notched up their eighth win on the trot, narrowly defeating premiership contenders Melbourne by four points on Friday night.

McKay, who injured his now-recovered knee in their win against Port Adelaide, replaces a sore Lachie Fogarty, with Ed Curnow also omitted for their trip to Queensland.

Carlton have stuck fat with McKay, despite external calls to utilise his “unique currency” and trade him, with Essendon champion Matthew Lloyd still convinced the forward can help them go all the way.

It comes after forward partner Charlie Curnow booted 10 goals the week after McKay’s injury against the Eagles, as well as six against rivals Collingwood and two against Melbourne.

But Lloyd remains convinced on McKay’s value to the charging Blues lineup.

“There’s four other clubs you’re saying want to jump at him … but they don’t grow on trees, players like Harry McKay,” Lloyd said on Nine’s Footy Classified.

Carlton face the Suns and the Giants in their final two home and away matches before the finals.
