India vs Sri Lanka Highlights, Cricket World Cup 2023: India seal semi-final berth with 302 run victory against SL

India vs Sri Lanka Highlights, Cricket World Cup 2023: Mohammed Shami clinched 5 crucial wickets as India’s pace attack wipes out Sri Lanka on the meagre score of 55 runs. This is India’s biggest victory in the ICC World Cup history in which Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer played a crucial role with bat while Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah derailed Sri Lankan batting.

Mohammed Shami clinched back-to-back 4 wickets to exacerbate Sri Lanka’s collapse. Charith Asalanka and Dushan Hemantha walked back to pavilion as Sri Lanka is down to its tail-end batters now. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj gave India a great start as Bumrah and Siraj struck early to take four early wickets. Charith Asalanka and Angelo Mathews are on crease trying to stabilise shaky Sri Lankan innings

India amassed 357/8 against Sri Lanka in their World Cup. Virat Kohli (88 off 94), Shubman Gill (92 off 92) and Shreyas Iyer (82 off 56) were the major scorers for the home team. Ravindra Jadeja’s 35 off 24 balls pushed India past 350. Left-arm pacer Dilshan Madhushanka was the stand out bowler for Sri Lanka ending with figures of five for 80 in 10 overs.

Virat Kohli surpassed iconic Sachin Tendulkar’s record by becoming the batter with the most thousand runs scored in a single year in the ODI format.

Former India captain however failed to match Sachin’s record of most ODI centuries (49).

Virat crossed the one thousand run mark in the 50-over format against his favourite opposition Sri Lanka in the ongoing World Cup on Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium.

Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli’s inspiring partnership along with Shreyas Iyer’s fireworks in the middle overs powered India to a total of 357/8 against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

Gill, Kohli and Iyer made most of the run-scoring opportunities that were on offer at the high-scoring Wankede Stadium.

Sri Lanka have won the toss and decided to field first at the iconic Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma was happy with the decision and said that he would have opted to bat first at his home ground.

The decision by Sri Lanka means that the opening pair of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma opened the batting for India. Rohit departed early on, getting Virat Kohli on the crease in the first over of the match.

The last IND vs SL match was played during the Asia Cup Final where Rohit’s side comprehensively defeated their neighbours owing to a fifer from Mohammed Siraj.

Rohit Sharma’s India remains the only unbeaten side in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with 6 wins in a row. The Men in Blue will be looking to become the first team in the tournament to qualify for the semi-finals.

Shreyas Iyer, who will be playing on this home ground, will be in the spotlight against the Lankans with 134 runs in 6 matches so far at an average of 33.50. Shreyas hasn’t set the World Cup stage ablaze this year, with opposition teams targeting his well-known weakness against short deliveries.

Sri Lanka have been on a rollercoaster ride so far in an injury-ravaged tournament. After successive defeats to South Africa, Pakistan and Australia in their first three matches, the Lankans bounced back with strong wins in their next two matches, including a win over reigning world champions England. However, a defeat to Afghanistan in their last match put a big dent in their World Cup hopes.

The Lankans currently sit 7th on the ICC World Cup Points Table with 4 points and a net run rate of -0.275. The Kusal Mendis-led side will be looking to get back to winning ways and stay alive in the tournament.
