AFL news 2023 | Collingwood Magpies sign brothers Josh and Nick Daicos to long-term deals

Sitting at the top of the AFL ladder, Collingwood is celebrating as the Daicos brothers, Josh and Nick, have committed to the club for an impressive six more years. This decision follows in the footsteps of their father, Peter Daicos, who played 250 games from 1979 to 1993, including the 1990 premiership victory. The news of their commitment was initially reported by Damien Barrett, a prominent AFL journalist, on Nine’s Footy Classified.

Barrett revealed, “Discussions have been ongoing for quite some time, and it seems that 2029 is the ideal timeframe for both the players and the club.” This long-term commitment by the Daicos brothers has received praise from Matthew Lloyd, a former player for the Essendon Bombers, who describes it as “huge.” Jimmy Bartel, a premiership winner, also recognizes the benefits of this deal, stating that it allows Collingwood to explore opportunities to strengthen their squad.

Collingwood’s general manager of football, Graham Wright, acknowledges the talent and character of the Daicos brothers. He states, “Josh and Nick are not only exceptional footballers, but they are also exemplary individuals. We are thrilled to have them donning the black-and-white stripes for years to come.” Wright further praises Josh for his consistency and dedication to improvement, while also highlighting Nick’s growth in his second season.

Both brothers are seen as great assets to the club, not only for their football abilities but also for their positive attitudes and eagerness to learn and develop. Collingwood looks forward to supporting their continued growth as both players and individuals.

Josh, who was drafted by Collingwood in 2016 as a father-son selection, has played 96 games for the club. Nick, on the other hand, was selected in 2021 as the fourth overall pick and has already established himself as one of the game’s best players in just 44 games.

Overall, this commitment by the Daicos brothers is a significant milestone for Collingwood, providing stability and potential for future success.
