Australia Matildas to play France Les Bleues in quarter finals, semi finals opponents either England or Colombia

The Matildas have advanced to the quarter finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup after defeating Denmark with a score of 2-0. They will now face France in a highly anticipated match, which will be a rematch of their “send off” game last month.

The Matildas last encountered the French team on Bastille Day, just a week before the start of the tournament. In front of a crowd of 50,629 at Marvel Stadium, the Matildas emerged victorious with a 1-0 win, thanks to a goal scored by attacking midfielder Mary Fowler in the 66th minute.

The French team secured their spot in the quarter finals with a dominant 4-0 victory over Morocco. Throughout the group stage, France achieved a draw with Jamaica and secured wins against Brazil and Panama, finishing at the top of Group F with seven points.

If the Matildas manage to overcome France, they will proceed to face the winner of the match between England and Colombia in the semi-finals. The stake will be a spot in the World Cup final, which will take place on Sunday, August 20. The potential opponents for the Matildas in the final are Spain, Netherlands, Japan or the third-ranked team, Sweden.

The Matildas’ quarter-final match against France is scheduled for Saturday, August 12, at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.
