Bayern Munich reach agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Harry Kane

It’s official! Bayern Munich has signed Vincent Kompany as the new coach to a three-year contract.

A search for a coach had been going on for months ever since it became clear that Tuchel would leave the club at the end of the season after 19 underwhelming months that featured major losses in the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal as well as the Champions League. Strained relationships with players and conflicting ideas between him and the board (Remember João Palhinha?) led to broken streaks, negative records, and eventually, the team and the coach parting ways prematurely. Kompany is now on board after other candidates such as Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick, Hansi Flick, Oliver Glasner, Zinédine Zidane, and Roberto De Zerbi fell through for various reasons.

Bayern Munich’s press release as well:

FC Bayern has signed Vincent Kompany as its new coach. The 38-year-old Belgian signed with the German record champions until June 30, 2027. He most recently worked for the English Premier League club FC Burnley.

With Kompany being at the helm, it will be interesting to see where things go from here. The Belgian, who played for Anderlecht, Hamburger SV, and Manchester City, started his coaching career also at Anderlecht. In 2022, he made the move to England, where he coached Burnley, led the team from the EFL Championship to the Premier League a year later, and witnessed the relegation back to the Championship after only one season in England’s top flight.

Kompany’s style of play is possession-based and aggressive, and his 4-2-3-1 system could work at Bayern. Will his persona clash with Bayern’s supervisory board members Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Honorary Bayern President Uli Hoeneß when things do not go so well? Can Kompany re-vitalize the team for more than one season? Will Bayern exercise more patience even if things do not turn around as quickly as desired? Only time will tell.

The time they are a-changin’ at Bayern Munich. Vincent Kompany looks like he is taking over in Bavaria, while the club’s former favorite son — Hansi Flick — officially signed with FC Barcelona. Which one will make out better with their new club? We’ll find out, but in the meantime, there could also be some Bayern players who are on Flick’s transfer radar. Basically, we’ve got a lot to talk about with all of that, plus some appreciation for Bayer Leverkusen’s incredible season.
