Creating an Instagram Broadcast Channel on Android and iOS Devices: A Step-by-Step Guide

Meta, the parent company of Instagram, recently made an announcement regarding the global rollout of its Channels feature for broadcasting messages. This feature, which was initially limited to select creators and users, is now available worldwide. The platform began testing broadcast channels in February of this year. With this feature, creators have the ability to share text, videos, and photos with their invited and subscribed followers on their broadcast channels. It’s important to note that only creators can send messages in these channels, while followers can react to content and participate in polls.

In a blog post published on June 15th, Meta announced the global rollout of Broadcast Channels. Once a creator gains access to create a channel, they can begin sending messages and inviting their followers. When followers join the channel, they receive notifications for any updates from the creator. However, all Instagram users can view the content on the channel.

Followers have the option to leave the channel or mute notifications at any time.

If you’re an Instagram creator looking to create a broadcast channel on your Android or iOS device, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open your Instagram page and select the messenger on the top right side of the feed

Step 2: Tap on the edit or write message icon in the top right

Step 3: Select the ‘Create broadcast channel’ option

Step 4: Name your broadcast channel and choose your audience

Step 5: You can then display the channel on your profile

Step 6: Finally, tap on ‘Create broadcast channel’

To join a broadcast channel, users can click on the access link shared by the creator or tap the pinned link on their Instagram profile. Once they select the ‘Join broadcast channel’ option, they will be subscribed to receive notifications for any updates. Followers can engage by reacting to content or participating in polls, but they cannot send messages.
