Crusaders’ Scott Robertson Expresses Concern Over Not Achieving Dream Finish in Super Rugby Pacific

If the Chiefs emerge victorious against the Brumbies, Scott Robertson will have reason to celebrate his final match as the Crusaders’ head coach. The outcome of this Saturday’s contest will determine the location of the final, with both options being in New Zealand. Should the Chiefs win, they will host the final in Hamilton, while a victory for the Brumbies will send them to Christchurch.

A large crowd gathered for what could potentially be Robertson’s farewell, as he is set to leave his position as the Crusaders’ head coach to join the All Blacks. Interacting with the crowd before the Super Rugby Pacific semi-final match against the Blues, Robertson admitted feeling nervous about the possibility of it being his final appearance and not knowing where the final would be held if they were to emerge victorious.

“Mate, I was actually a bit nervous beforehand,” he explained. “Potentially your final game. It’s a final, and fairy tale endings don’t always happen.”

However, once the game started, Robertson’s nerves were replaced with excitement as the Crusaders went on to secure an impressive 52-15 victory over the Blues.

Reflecting on the match, Robertson praised the team for sticking to the basics and executing their game plan effectively. He noted that the Blues tried to be “too fancy” at times, allowing the Crusaders to capitalize on their mistakes.

“With our tight turnaround, we focused on the fundamentals,” Robertson stated. “Maintaining carry height, keeping the ball in front of us, and running onto it. And we did just that.”

He further emphasized that the team’s execution in the opposition’s 22 was key to their success, as they managed to score several tries and maintain control of the game.

When asked about the halftime talk, with the Crusaders leading 32-3, Robertson revealed that the main focus was on scoring first in the second half. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a proactive mindset and not getting caught up in the opposition’s tactics.

“At the end of the day, you still need to score,” he said. “You can start worrying about the opposition’s desperate attempts to catch up, but if you keep your focus on scoring first, you’re in control. Our defense was outstanding and held strong against their attacks.”
