Sunrisers Hyderabad dominate Delhi Capitals, securing a convincing 67-run victory. T Natarajan’s exceptional spell of 4-19 dismantled the Capitals’ batting lineup in the chase. Following this triumph at Qila Kotla, Sunrisers Hyderabad now occupy the second position in the IPL points table.

Delhi finds themselves in a dire situation as the required run rate surpasses the 20-run mark, with shots becoming scarce. Rishabh Pant stands out as the only guiding force for DC, yet he requires a competent partner on the other end.

First, Mayank Markande got rid of Fraser-McGurk for 65. And then, he got threatening Abhishek Porel for 42. These two quick wickets have impacted Delhi’s run chase.

We just notice that young kids sitting near boundaries – ball boys and ball girls – are wearing hard hats! Yup, runs are coming in at Kotla if not with the same ferocity as we saw in SRH innings.  

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has become the first bowler of Sunrisers Hyderabad to complete 150 wickets in the history of the Indian Premier League. His 150th wicket was that of David Warner during the powerplay. 

Delhi Capitals is chasing a target of 267 runs in 20 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in match 35 of Tata IPL 2024 at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner couldn’t do much as they were dismissed early in the game. With that kind of the target and two openers gone, any team would have crumbled. But then came young guns – Porel and Fraser-McGurk. Together, they have given some power and stability to Delhi’s fightback    

Shahbaz Ahmed carries the momentum after slowdown. Ahmed hit a half-century in 28 balls. Earlier, Nitish Kumar Reddy’s nifty knock also helped Sunrisers in piling up the runs at Kotla. The carnage in Delhi has led SRH to post the highest IPL total that this venue has ever seen. DC have to make 267 runs in 20 overs to signal real homecoming!  

Pant brought back DC’s most successful bowler Kuldeep Yadav in the seventh over and he delivered. Yadav picked up the wicket of Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram in this over. Sharma was removed for 46 runs while Markram departed after just 1 run.

Batting at the strike rate of 314, Travis Head has started the SRH party at Kotla! he has already slammed seven boundaries and three sixes. Abhishek SHarma has joined the party now with those smashing boundaries. It should be noted that SRH have the best powerplay score in this season.

This is the first time that Rishabh Pant will be playing in front of Delhi ground since he returned to competitive cricket. Pant was out of cricket after a horrific car crash in 2022. DC had played their early games at their adopted home – Vizag’s Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. while DC won the first match at Vizag as they defeated defending champs Chennai Super Kings. But they lost the second ‘home’ match KKR.

Amid the IPL frenzy, here’s more good news for cricket lovers. The BCCI is set to announce India‘s 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup soon. According to the latest reports, Ajit Agarkar, who is the chief selector, will make the announcement after the DC vs MI IPL match next Saturday. According to the reports, since the cutoff for the squad announcement has been set at May 1st by the ICC, BCCI would have to make the squad official by then. Hence, the BCCi will hold a press conference shortly after the DC vs MI match, which will be played in Delhi. 

In the last 17 years of the tournament, Arun Jaitley Stadium has been the chosen venue for as many as 85 IPL games. David Warner, who has been out of DC’s Playing XI due to a niggle, holds the record of amassing most runs here. Warner has smashed 1,047 runs at Delhi Stadium. Though he has a terrific record, it is still uncertain whether he will play tonight or not.

At present, Sunrisers Hyderabad are on number 4 with four victories out of six matches. If they win this match against Delhi Capitals tonight, it will put them straight at number 2 in the points table. With the stunning batting performances, SRH are currently season favourites.

There was a time when the pitches of Arun Jaitley Stadium were known to be slow ones. Most of the matches played here were low scoring that favoured bowlers. But during ICC World Cup 2023, this pitch was curated and transformed into a more battery-friendly venue. Does that mean we will see another record-breaking innings tonight?
