One of the intriguing aspects left unexplored in Star Trek: Picard was the journey of Seven of Nine after her time on Voyager. David Mack’s latest novel, Star Trek: Picard: Firewall, aims to fill in those gaps.
Firewall, the prequel novel, takes place two years after the return of USS Voyager from the Delta Quadrant. Seven of Nine ends up not being accepted into Starfleet and finds a new home with the Fenris Rangers, an interstellar rogue law enforcement group. This new path requires her to leave behind everything she knows, including her friendship with Admiral Kathryn Janeway.
David Mack is an acclaimed author with numerous awards and bestselling novels across science fiction, fantasy, and adventure genres. Aside from his work in the Star Trek franchise, including the Destiny and Cold Equations trilogies, he has also contributed to Deep Space Nine and served as a consultant on the animated series Prodigy.
In Star Trek: Picard, we learn that Seven of Nine, portrayed by Jeri Ryan, had her commission to Starfleet vouched for by Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) before ultimately choosing to join the Fenris Rangers, who have a more flexible approach to achieving their goals. Seven and Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) unite to uncover an anti-Synth conspiracy originating from the remnants of the Romulan Empire. In the following season, they cross paths again in an alternate reality created by Q (John de Lancie) to alter the past and secure their future. Finally, Seven accepts a commission as commander and XO of the U.S.S. Titan-A. Star Trek: Firewall will be available in bookstores from Simon & Schuster in late February 2024 and can be preordered on Amazon.
