Don’t Miss Out on these 5 Must-Have Android Apps This Week

Welcome to the 488th edition of Android Apps Weekly! Here are the major headlines from last week:

1. WhatsApp is reportedly developing multi-account support, which is a significant development. Previously, users had to install multiple copies of the app to have multiple accounts. This feature was only available on select Android phones. Read more about it by following the link.

2. The EU is currently working on the AI Act to regulate AI technology. The Act is in its final stages and aims to put restrictions on the riskiest uses of AI, such as creating illegal, racist, or biased content. The US is also working on a similar bill, indicating that we can expect more widespread AI regulation in the next year or two.

3. Google Home’s script editor is now accessible to all users, allowing them to create advanced smart home automations using the Google Home platform. This feature is currently available through the web app, and although it already offers powerful capabilities, we can expect it to improve over time.

4. Google Bard, an AI tool developed by Google, is facing temporary restrictions in the EU due to concerns about user privacy. The Irish Data Protection Commission questioned Google about these issues and was unsatisfied with the responses provided by the company. However, this is a temporary roadblock and we can expect Bard to launch in the EU eventually. On a positive note, Google introduced AI-powered features in Search, Maps, and other apps this week.

5. A Reddit controversy unfolded last week as several subreddits intentionally went dark in protest. However, the CEO of Reddit made it clear through an internal memo that the company would not back down. Subreddits like r/Android extended their outage until June 20th. While most of the Reddit protests have ended, some subreddits may remain dark for a little longer.

Now, let’s move on to the featured apps and games of the week:

Featured Apps:

1. Laid-Back Camp All-in-one: This game immerses players in the Lack-Back Camp anime universe. It offers a relaxing and narrative-driven experience where you progress through the story by watching cut scenes and building your own camp. Fans of the anime will appreciate this homage.

2. Stippl: Stippl is a comprehensive travel planner that goes beyond the basics. It helps users plan their itinerary, choose accommodations, and manage their budget. Additionally, it provides a notes section and syncs with the desktop version for easy planning. While there are some bugs and areas for improvement, it overall offers a decent travel planning experience.

Featured Games:

1. Static Shift Racing: This racing game stands out for its mechanics, which heavily incorporate drifting. Players can modify and customize their cars and explore an open world reminiscent of old Need for Speed games. While the graphics may not be the sharpest, the gameplay is so enjoyable that it makes up for it.

2. Insight Journal: This journal app incorporates AI to help users focus on the positive aspects of their day. Users can record their daily events and receive guidance to recognize the good things in life. Additionally, the app includes a collection of over 3,500 books for users to read and reflect upon. While it offers similar functions to other journal apps, its unique approach sets it apart. However, it is on the pricier side.

3. Pokemon TCG Live: After being in open beta for a while, Pokemon TCG Live officially launched last week. It allows for cross-platform play between mobile, PC, and Mac OS. Players collect cards, build decks, and engage in duels. The game also features battle passes for earning extra rewards and supports the old Pokemon Trading Card Game, allowing users to import their collection and use old codes. Although the game is still experiencing some bugs, it has the potential to improve with time.
