Flags Celebrate Mechanics at Richmond Ford Dealerships

According to Kody, Chris Haynie, the service manager at Richmond Ford West, and Jonathan Mitchell, a digital creator responsible for designing the banners and digitizing each technician’s signature, were both crucial to the success of this project.

The implementation of these banners has had a positive impact on employee morale and has sparked healthy competition among the technicians as they strive to climb the ranks and earn more certifications – and subsequently, more stars on their banners.

Moreover, the banners have proven beneficial for new technicians seeking career guidance and mentorship. Kody explained that the banners have fostered a supportive work culture where seeking help and assistance is actively encouraged and appreciated.

“They now know who to approach for assistance with specific problems,” she explained. “They can easily identify those who have been with us for a longer time and may be able to provide guidance or support without the need to memorize everyone immediately.”

For the Richmond Ford Auto Group, these banners have served as a unique attracting factor for technicians.

“While we have various incentives in our stores, such as shop foremen, to retain technicians,” Kody highlighted, “the challenge lies in finding new technicians, as everyone is competing for them. These banners have undoubtedly set us apart from the rest.”

Kody is now contemplating extending this banner concept to the sales, finance, and accounting staff within the group.

As Ford dealerships gear up for the increased sale and servicing of electric vehicles – a transition that will demand additional training and specific skill sets, particularly within the service department – initiatives that enhance employee morale become even more crucial.

Kody acknowledged, “Being a technician is an immensely challenging job, and it continues to become more demanding. It is our responsibility as dealer principals, vice presidents, operators, service managers – regardless of our roles – to support them during this period.”
