GCash celebrates Pride Month by advancing inclusive financial services and fostering diversity in the workforce

This June, GCash, the leading mobile wallet in the Philippines, is proudly participating in the celebration of Pride Month. As an advocate for diversity, equality, and inclusion, GCash not only promotes these values within its work culture but also through its accessible financial services. By adhering to international goals like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), GCash aims to support gender equality, reduce workplace inequalities, and promote inclusive economic growth.

Inclusive Financial Products for All:
GCash, specifically through its partner insurance companies via GInsure, now allows policyholders to designate their same-sex partners as beneficiaries for their insurance plans. This enables same-sex couples to have access to a wide range of affordable insurance products from GCash’s insurance partners, including FPG Insurance, Singlife, Sun Life, and Generali. These companies support LGBTQIA+ couples in easily designating their partners as beneficiaries for their chosen insurance coverage.

According to Winsley Bangit, GCash’s head of new business, “All people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, should have fair and equitable access to market opportunities. That’s why we at GCash have developed simple, affordable, and inclusive products, and work with partners who promote fair and non-discriminatory processes, breaking the stigma and bias against the LGBTQIA+ population.”

Equal Access to Funding and Loans:
In addition to offering inclusive financial products, GCash also ensures equal and fair access to funding and loans through its suite of lending products: GGives, GLoans, and GCredit. These services have a non-discriminatory application process that considers only in-app behavior and approves eligibility regardless of factors such as sexual orientation, gender identity, place of birth, family background, race, age, or ability.

Cultivating a Diverse and Inclusive Work Culture:
GCash values the unique identities of its employees and upholds non-discriminatory policies that allow them to freely express themselves. The company ensures that all employees, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity and expression, are treated fairly in work evaluations and given equal employment opportunities to advance into leadership positions and progress in their career paths. GCash follows a no-mandatory dress code per gender and requires all employees to undergo Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training, cultivating a safe space for everyone within and outside the company.

To foster a sense of community among its employees, GCash is a proud member of the Philippine Financial & Inter-Industry Pride (PFIP), a collaborative and non-profit community that serves as a leading voice and champion of LGBTQIA+ workplace inclusion in the Philippines. GCash also encourages employee connections through relevant and meaningful communities such as GCash Pride Club, as well as participation in Drag Events and the Pride Parade to showcase and celebrate the talent of the community.

According to Robert Gonzales, GCash’s chief people officer, “No one should experience prejudice, as everyone deserves to have a voice and be treated fairly wherever they are. At GCash, we make it our mission to foster an inclusive work culture where different views, backgrounds, cultures, and experiences are valued and nurtured. This is one way we effectively address not only the needs of our consumers but also of the people behind this amazing app. With the help of GCash’s diverse team and leaders, we are working towards making our ‘Finance for All’ vision a reality.”

Looking Beyond Pride Month:
GCash’s commitment to being an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community extends beyond Pride Month. The company remains dedicated to making Filipino lives better every day and transforming the country into a more equal, diverse, and inclusive nation. GCash believes that everyone, regardless of their background, can work with pride. Join GCash in celebrating Pride Month and together we can #WerkWithPride.
