Hungarian Grand Prix of F1 2023 Restyled

Daniel Ricciardo has compared his setback at the Hungarian Grand Prix to that of an NFL player making their debut in the sport. In his first race since last year’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Ricciardo was hit from behind by the Alfa Romeo of Zhou Guanyu, leading to a chain reaction crash involving Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly. This incident pushed Ricciardo to the back of the field.

Despite being stuck at the back, Ricciardo’s strategic decision during the race allowed him to make a remarkable recovery and finish in 13th place, two spots ahead of his teammate Yuki Tsunoda. Ricciardo compared the incident to a welcome back tackle in an NFL game and expressed disappointment at being out of position from the start. However, he was relieved that the damage to his car was minimal and did not affect its performance.

Ricciardo praised the team for putting on a strong showing and mentioned that apart from the incident on the first lap, it was a good day for him. He spoke about the challenging nature of the track and the difficulty in following other cars closely. Ricciardo strategically timed his pit stops and made a set of medium tires last an impressive 40 laps, which helped him regain positions.

Looking ahead, Ricciardo acknowledged the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix and the mandatory summer break for the sport. He finished by mentioning that he will continue to learn and improve in the remaining races of the season.
