New Delhi,UPDATED: Dec 19, 2023 23:58 IST
The IPL 2024 auction, as expected was an absolute spectacle with 72 players sold and multiple records broken in Dubai on Tuesday, December 19. Only 5 slots remained unfilled as 10 teams made sure they fixed the final pieces of jigsaw.
IPL Auction 2024 Highlights
Mitchell Starc and not Pat Cummins is the most expensive player in the history of IPL auction. The Australia left-arm pacer was bought for Rs 24.75 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders. The huge payday came hours after Pat Cummins, the World Cup-winning captain, was bought by SunRisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore.
Meanwhile, uncapped Indian players – Jharkhand’s Kumar Kushagra, Vidarbha’s Shubham Dubey, and Uttar Pradesh’s Sameer Rizvi — had huge paydays.
India all-rounder Harshal Patel, who was released by RCB, has found new takers in Punjab Kings who bought him for Rs 11.75 crore.
Rovman Powell became the first player to be sold in the IPL Auction 2024 in Dubai. Harry Brook was sold to Delhi Capitals as the first set of batters who were sold.
