Ishan Kishan enlightens on Virat Kohli’s motivation during shift from No. 4 batting position

Ishan Kishan is grateful to Virat Kohli for supporting his batting position at number four and encouraging him to play his natural game, following his impressive half-century against West Indies in the second Test.

Kishan also expressed his appreciation for Rishabh Pant’s assistance in helping him with his bat positioning during their time at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Reflecting on his noteworthy innings, Kishan spoke about the significance of the half-century and his understanding of the team’s requirements. He credited Virat Kohli for backing him and giving him the freedom to play his game.

Since taking over the number four position from Sachin Tendulkar in 2013, Kohli has shown exceptional precision in this role. He currently ranks fourth among the leading centurions at number four, with Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, and Mahela Jayawardene ahead of him.

Kishan expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and the importance of making bold decisions for the benefit of the team’s overall performance.

India set a formidable target of 365 runs for West Indies to chase in the ongoing second Test. In response, the Windies lost two wickets in the final session of day four in Port of Spain.

“It was one of my dreams to play Test cricket. I just wanted to go out there and play my natural game. I am extremely thankful to my parents who have always supported me,” Kishan said.

India is hopeful of securing victory as the match progresses, with Kishan’s contribution playing a significant role in their quest for success.

At the end of day four, West Indies was at 76/2, with Tagenarine Chanderpaul (24*) and Jermaine Blackwood (20*) at the crease.
