Kajol shares her take on remaking Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge: “The timeless magic of old films can never be replicated”

In an interview, Kajol expressed her belief that the enchantment of those movies can never be replicated. When asked about her classic roles that could potentially become franchises or spin-offs, she explained that the timeless films she has been a part of could only have been made during that specific era, by those specific individuals. They possess a unique charm that cannot be replicated.

Kajol firmly believes that every movie, regardless of its quality, possesses its own allure and chemistry. She argues that attempting to imitate past successes is a mistake. According to her, those films belonged to a specific era, and any efforts to recreate them would not meet her approval.

The Trial: Pyaar Kaanoon Dhokha, an Indian adaptation of the popular American courtroom drama series The Good Wife, was directed by Suparn Verma, who also weighed in on the matter.

Verma acknowledges that people evolve over time, and this includes characters in films. Referring to Simran’s character from DDLJ, he states that if the movie were made today, Simran would be different.

Kajol further elaborates on this by envisioning Simran in the present day. She imagines that Simran would have left with Raj, lived in London for 27 years, and become a strong and independent woman. “She would be like, ‘Bauji’s gone now, mom’s gone now.’ Because Baby can’t still be alive, so Bauji had to go (laughs). Simran would be very different,” Verma adds that she might have even gone through a divorce, to which Kajol nods in agreement.
