The world-renowned Hall H of San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) bore witness to the highly-anticipated premiere of Kalki 2898 AD, an extraordinary film produced by Vyjayanthi Movies. This momentous occasion marked a significant milestone as Kalki 2898 AD became the first-ever Indian movie to grace the prestigious international Comic-Con. The enthusiastic audience showered the film with thunderous applause, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening of cinematic marvels.
The atmosphere was electric as Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, director Nag Ashwin, producer C Aswani Dutt, Priyanka Dutt, and Swapna Dutt Chalasani graced the stage. Their presence alone sent the crowd into a frenzy of excitement and anticipation. When asked about assembling such an incredible cast, director Nag Ashwin shared, “It’s their shared love for storytelling that brought us together. I had this idea and the story unfolded naturally. Growing up with a fascination for science fiction and mythology, combining both in a film felt like the perfect choice – thus, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ was born.”
Amitabh Bachchan, joining the panel discussion via a live Zoom call, expressed his pride in being a part of the film. He praised Nagi’s outstanding work and the incredible research behind “Project K.” Amitabh also expressed his gratitude to the Comic-Con organizers for the opportunity. He said, “I hope you enjoy what you see, and when we release the film next year, I hope you like it even more!” He further revealed his initial unawareness of the significance of being chosen for Comic-Con, stating, “My son enlightened me about the magnitude of this opportunity.”
Interacting with the audience, Kamal Haasan shared his excitement about being involved in “Kalki 2898 AD.” He mentioned his previous attempts at creating similar films but praised the grand vision behind this project. Kamal Haasan reminisced, “When I wanted to create troopers, I used hockey masks in the costume design. But ‘Kalki2898AD’ has taken it to a whole new level, and I love it.”
Vyjayanthi Movies founder and producer C Aswani Dutt, along with his daughters Priyanka Dutt and Swapna Dutt Chalasani, also graced the panel. Aswani Dutt reflected on his journey from black and white cinema to venturing into the realm of sci-fi with “Kalki 2898 AD.” He expressed immense pride in reaching this moment after years of hard work, starting his career with NT Rama Rao and eventually collaborating with legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan.
Meanwhile, “Kalki 2898 AD” features Deepika Padukone and showcases a futuristic dystopian world.
