Kane Cornes and David King Raise Concerns Over Western Bulldogs’ Selection Process; Josh Bruce Returns for Clash with Essendon – AFL News 2023

Port Adelaide champion Kane Cornes has issued a strong warning to the Western Bulldogs, suggesting that their reputation will suffer if they fail to defeat Essendon in their upcoming match. The Bulldogs and Essendon are set to face off in a crucial game on Friday night, with both teams desperate to keep their hopes of reaching the finals alive. Cornes believes that the Bulldogs are under significant pressure to perform well in this match.

Speaking on SEN, Cornes expressed his concern for the Bulldogs, stating, “If the Dogs don’t come out on top in this game, they should face severe backlash for wasting the potential of a very talented team.” He emphasized the importance of this match and the potential consequences for the Bulldogs should they fail to secure a victory.

In preparation for the game against Essendon, the Bulldogs have made four changes to their lineup. Oskar Baker and Bailey Smith have been included, and Josh Bruce and Buku Khamis will also make their return. Cornes expressed uncertainty about the role that Josh Bruce will play, given the absence of Sam Darcy, who played in the forward line in the previous match for unknown reasons. Cornes suggested that Buku Khamis will be positioned in the forward line and Josh Bruce will move to the backline.

However, Cornes expressed his discontent with the Bulldogs’ selection decisions, indicating that their choices for round 19 have already proven to be unsuccessful. He previously expressed the view that the Bulldogs’ coach should be replaced due to his stubbornness. Cornes posed the question of whether the Bulldogs truly need another tall forward in their lineup, suggesting that their forward line would be more effective with a combination of Cody Weightman, Aaron Naughton, and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, as they do not necessarily need another tall player like Buku Khamis.

David King, a North Melbourne legend, defended the Bulldogs’ poor run of injuries but highlighted the areas where they have struggled on the field. He pointed out that without Liam Jones, the Bulldogs lack a reliable intercept marker in their defense. King acknowledged the injuries suffered by Jason Johannisen and Ed Richards, but also drew attention to the team’s midfield, which ranks 18th in terms of scoreboard output from clearances, describing this as a major concern.

The Bulldogs, currently in seventh place, will face Essendon, who are in eighth place, at Marvel Stadium on Friday night. The outcome of this match will play a pivotal role in determining both teams’ final standings.
