Experience the start of an extraordinary crossover event in the Golden Age with Master Comics #21, featuring Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr, and Bulletman.

Following the attack on Pearl Harbor and subsequent declarations of war by Japan, Germany, and Italy, the media and public sentiment in the United States began to anticipate America’s entry into the war. Comic books started reflecting this shift, with superheroes transitioning from battling saboteurs to engaging in direct action. In a remarkable storyline, Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr., and Bulletman unite to confront Captain Nazi, Hitler’s agent tasked with defeating America’s heroes. The thrilling battle between good and evil commences in Master Comics #21, continues in Whiz Comics #25, and concludes in Master Comics #22. An auction at Heritage Auctions grants the opportunity to acquire a coveted copy of the historic trilogy’s first issue, Master Comics #21 (Fawcett Publications, 1941) CGC GD 2.0 Cream to off-white pages.

Master Comics #21 (Fawcett Publications, 1941)

Master Comics #21 debuted on newsstands around November 5, 1941, a little over a month before the United States joined the war. The story sets the stage with Hitler gathering his top advisors to reveal his plan of using a superhuman named Captain Nazi to fight America’s superheroes, following his Blitzkrieg strategy. Bulletman enters the Captain Marvel narrative in this issue to confront the impending menace, soon joined by Captain Marvel himself.

Originally published in a larger-than-standard format of 10.5″ x 14″, Master Comics was an anthology series by Fawcett Publications that ran from 1940 to 1953. While initially featuring the character Master Man, known for his super strength and invulnerability, the series transitioned to a standard Golden Age comic book size starting with Master Comics #7. It introduced beloved characters like Bulletman, Bulletgirl, and patriotic hero Minute-Man. Following the crossover saga in Master Comics #21, Whiz Comics #25, and Master Comics #22, Captain Marvel Jr. took over as the protagonist in Master Comics #23.

For decades, collectors have been seeking this iconic starting point of one of the Golden Age’s most memorable battles. Now, an opportunity arises to acquire an affordable copy of Master Comics #21 (Fawcett Publications, 1941) CGC GD 2.0 Cream to off-white pages through the upcoming auction at Heritage Auctions, part of the 2023 June 22 – 25 Comics & Comic Art Signature® Auction #7340.
