Meta Platforms announced on Friday that it has successfully restored services on its popular social media apps, Facebook and Instagram, following an outage that affected thousands of users for over two hours.
During the outage, nearly 20,000 users reported experiencing difficulties accessing Facebook, Instagram, and Meta’s messaging service, WhatsApp, according to Downdetector.com, a website that tracks such incidents.
In response to the outage reports, Meta took to Twitter to inform users that they were actively working to resolve the issues and apologize for any inconvenience caused.
We are aware that some users may be encountering issues with our apps today.
We are diligently working to restore normal functionality as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience. 🙏
As of 6:30pm ET (4:00am IST, Saturday), Downdetector reported that the number of outage reports had decreased to less than 500. However, it is important to note that the actual number of affected users may be greater.
The company also confirmed the resolution of issues with Meta’s Ads Manager, the advertising tool used for purchasing and creating Facebook ads.
Fixed! The issue has been resolved and our apps should now be functioning normally. Thank you again for your patience.
It is worth mentioning that the outage was not a global one, as users in India reported no issues with accessing Facebook and Instagram.
Meanwhile, Meta has recently reversed a policy aimed at curbing the spread of misinformation regarding COVID-19 on its platforms, Facebook and Instagram. The decision was made following the success in sourcing reliable information about the pandemic and a growing awareness among the general populace.
