Mummy Unearthed in Lima, Peru Dates Back 3,000 Years

Archaeologists in Peru have recently discovered a mummy that is believed to be around 3,000 years old. The mummy was found in the valleys of Lima, which is associated with the Manchay culture that developed in the region between 1500 and 1000 BC. This culture was believed to be involved in the construction of temples that were built in a U-shape that pointed toward the sunrise.

The mummy was discovered by the students from San Marcos University and researchers, who found initial remains of the mummy’s hair and skull in a cotton bundle. They then went on to uncover the rest of the mummy. According to archaeologist Miguel Aguilar, the person “had been left or offered (as a sacrifice) during the last phase of the construction of this temple”. The mummy is believed to be approximately 3,000 years old.

Various other items such as corn, coca leaves, and seeds were found buried with the body. These items are believed to have been offered as part of an offering. The discovery of this mummy is just one of the many fascinating discoveries in Peru that date back to pre-Hispanic times.

The archaeologists responsible for the discovery believe that this mummy is an important historical artifact that offers insight into the pre-Hispanic times and the cultures that existed during that era. This discovery is yet another reminder of how significant Peru is in terms of its archaeological offerings.
