Musical Adaptation of ‘Final Fantasy 16’ in the Works

Square Enix has made an exciting announcement to commemorate the huge success of Final Fantasy: Final Fantasy 16 will be adapted into a captivating musical production, performed entirely by an all-female theatre troupe.

The musical version of Final Fantasy 16, produced by Takarazuka Revue, will be presented in two parts when it premieres in 2024. The first run will take place from May to June at the prestigious Takarazuka Grand Theater, while the second run will be staged from July to August at the Tokyo Takarazuka Theater Performance. Ticket sales will begin in April of the following year.

Alongside this announcement, Square Enix revealed that the Final Fantasy franchise has sold a remarkable 180 million copies worldwide, according to their official statistics. This achievement places it in the same league as Grand Theft Auto 5. In their press release, Square Enix stated, “With its stunning graphics, unique universe, and compelling storyline, the franchise has captivated audiences not only in Japan but also around the world, expanding its reach beyond video games to include TV dramas, movies, kabuki, and various other media platforms.”

In a glowing four-star review of Final Fantasy 16, NME applauded the ambitious narrative and unforgettable performances, but also noted that certain segments of the game felt slightly drawn out in comparison. “Square Enix takes a bold step with a darker tone in Final Fantasy 16, especially following the more lighthearted road trip theme of Final Fantasy 15. Nevertheless, the execution is flawless, as the mature tone allows for meaningful exploration of themes such as persecution, classism, and trauma,” praised Andy Brown.

For those eagerly awaiting the PC version of Final Fantasy 16, the development team has stated that they need more time to optimize it for release. Producer Naoki Yoshida assures fans that there will be many exciting features to anticipate in this version once it becomes available.

In other gaming news, Bokeh Game Studio’s upcoming horror game, Slitterhead, showcased its intense combat encounters in a recent developer diary. Additionally, players caught a glimpse of what appears to be a playable stray dog character.
