Netflix Release First Teaser and Premiere Month for Highly-Anticipated Sci-Fi Epic

The highly anticipated trailer for the adaptation of the renowned novel, 3 Body Problem, has made its debut. Unveiled during Netflix’s Tudum livestream, the trailer not only gives us a glimpse into the series but also reveals that it will be released in January 2024, a slight delay from its initial expected release in 2023.

Bringing the intriguing story to life are the talented Game of Thrones showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, accompanied by the esteemed writer of True Blood and showrunner of The Terror: Infamy, Alexander Woo.

According to Netflix’s official synopsis, the series revolves around “a significant decision made by a young woman in 1960s China,” a decision that transcends time and space to impact a group of extraordinary scientists in the present day. As they witness the unraveling of the laws of nature, these former colleagues reunite to confront the most significant threat in the history of humanity.

The enigmatic trailer teases the show’s high-quality production through enticing snippets, accompanied by a powerful voiceover that culminates in the phrase, “life looks for life.”

This Netflix series is an adaptation of Liu Cixin’s trilogy of books, The Three-Body Problem, which won the prestigious Hugo Award. The first book delves into “humanity’s initial encounter with an extraterrestrial civilization,” as explained by Peter Friedlander, Netflix VP of Original Series, in the company’s official blog post when the series was announced back in 2020.

Joining as executive producers are the acclaimed writer-director of Knives Out, Rian Johnson, and the iconic actor Brad Pitt. Liu Cixin and Ken Liu, the English translator, also contribute as consulting producers for the series. Liu Cixin, the author, gained further recognition with the novel, The Wandering Earth, which was transformed into a movie acquired by Netflix in 2019.

The cast boasts a brilliant lineup that includes Jess Hong, Benedict Wong, Eiza González, Jovan Adepo, Alex Sharp, John Bradley, Saamer Usmani, Liam Cunningham, Rosalind Chao, Jonathan Pryce, Marlo Kelly, Sea Shimooka, Ben Schnetzer, and Zine Tseng.
