The latest edition of Nintendo Direct has just been released, and it was filled to the brim with exciting information about Pikmin! We were treated to new details about the highly anticipated Pikmin 4, as well as the surprise release of HD remasters of Pikmin and Pikmin 2 for the Nintendo Switch.
The new trailer for Pikmin 4 showcased a multitude of exciting features, including the introduction of underground dungeons where players can discover and rescue castaways to add to their base camp. The base camp in this game offers much more depth compared to previous Pikmin titles, allowing players to not only train their loyal dog companion, Oatchi, but also craft useful items and partake in thrilling nighttime expeditions. The enemies during these expeditions are particularly aggressive, but fear not! You’ll have the assistance of the new Glow Pikmin at your disposal. Additionally, you’ll encounter a mysterious individual (bearing a striking resemblance to Olimar wearing a mask) who challenges you to one-on-one “Dandori Battles”. Check out all the exciting new content in the trailer below.
Pikmin 4 appears to be an incredibly ambitious sequel! Here’s an official description of the new features revealed in the trailer:
“Welcome to the Rescue Corps. As the newest recruit, you’ll have the opportunity to customize your character before embarking on your journey alongside the capable Rescue Pup, Oatchi, and the charming plant-like creatures known as Pikmin. If you’re new to the series, this game serves as a perfect entry point to learn more about the world of Pikmin.
Explore the planet and collect valuable treasures to repair the Rescue Corps’ spaceship radar and unlock new areas, including the mysterious underground caves that offer a completely unique environment. Pikmin 4 introduces Dandori Battles, where you must try and collect more objects than your opponent within a given time limit to save the castaway. For the first time in the Pikmin series, you can now embark on thrilling night expeditions. However, be cautious as nightfall triggers a frenzy among the creatures, but don’t worry! You’ll come across the new Glow Pikmin who will help you fend them off.”
Additionally, as mentioned earlier, HD versions of Pikmin 1 and 2 are now available on the Nintendo Switch. These games can be purchased individually or as a convenient 2-game bundle.
Pikmin 4 will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch on July 21.
