Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah made his international debut for India under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in 2016, and in the last eight years, he has also played under the leadership of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. All three of them have made a big name for themselves as captains, but during a recent interview, when Bumrah was asked to pick the greatest Indian captain of all time, he ignored all three of them and instead mentioned his name.
According to the 30-year-old pacer, who has served as India’s captain in one Test and two T20Is so far, he is his favourite captain.
“See, my favourite captain is me because I have captained a few games. Obviously, there are great captains, but I will take my name… I am my favourite captain,” he told Indian Express.
Bumrah made his captaincy debut for India against England on July 1, 2022, during a rescheduled Test in Birmingham, and then got a chance to lead the Men in Blue in two T20Is against Ireland in Dublin last year. At present, Bumrah is the vice captain of India’s Test side.
Bumrah praises Rohit
Bumrah, who made his IPL debut in 2013 and has won five IPL trophies and one T20 World Cup title under Rohit’s leadership, was full of praise for the 37-year-old star and said there is so much to learn from him.
“There is so much to learn from Rohit Sharma and how he has evolved as a captain; he has learned from mistakes, opened to feedback, is not rigid, listens to everyone, then finally filters it out. I am grateful and privileged to have played under his captaincy for a long time.”
He also hailed the Indian skipper for making youngsters feel that they are a very important part of the team.
“In the recent England series, when the youngsters came, Rohit made the atmosphere very comfortable; he took extra effort; he will take them out; he will talk to them about the game; he will try and push them to take the responsibility, as the youngsters should think all are equally important; there is no senior or junior.”
